A reinforced concrete and brick water tower within the railway station grounds. The reinforced concrete tank is in the shape of an inverted cone and has a capacity of 20,000 gallons. It is carried on a circular brick base with corbelled cap and plain frieze, the uppermost course being in bluestone. There is a timber access door to the tower at the base with a bluestone lintel. The only other known example of a water tower of this type was demolished at Dandenong in January 1964. ... more

Station Statement of Significance: The station building at Birregurra was constructed in 1877 for the Victorian Railways Department. It features polychromatic brickwork walls and chimneys with a bracketted cornice made from slate flagging. Elmore Railway Station and Water Tower were constructed in 1870 by P Cunningham for the Victorian Railways on the Melbourne-Echuca Line. It comprises a single storey Italianate railway Station building and residence with slate-hipped roof and cast iron gutters. The brickwork is relieved by stuccoed window and door dressings and quoins. A brick lamp room/ toilet block adjoins.
